Sunset

Rendered Image
It is 21 : 09 pm on monday 22nd December. I walk from my study room and see the sunset. With golden stripes with a blanket of violet clouds. I have never seen such beauty in my life.

As the sun goes down it leaves a trail of wonder and joy. As the gold fades, little bits of pink show. When the violet clouds fill the sky it shows night has began.

In some minutes or hours the violet becomes purple and the purple fades to black with tiny stars that looks like diamonds.

I go downstairs thinking how lovely God’s creation is. He put gems in the sky to show light for those who need it. But, I think He’s telling us He is the light we should follow.

The life of Ida Sophia Scudder

Rendered Image
This is Dr. Ida Scudder
Ida S. in her young stage (left) and her old (right)

Ida Sophia Scudder
Born : December 9, 1870
Died : May 24, 1960
Birth Place :Ranipet, India
Education : Cornell University, Weill Cornell Medical College

Ida Scudder was a women who fought for women and many diseases. Her father was John Scudder Jr. and her mother was Sophia (née Weld ). She was born in India because her father and mother were doctors in India.

While her mother and father were out 3 women asked to help them because they were conceiving. But, she denied them. At the end she saw that the 3 women and their newborn babies had died and that’s when she heard God’s call. God was telling her to help those in need.

She was willing to accept the call because she witnessed lots of poverty in India. So in 1918 she started Asia’s foremost teaching hospitals and the Christian Medical College & hospital in Vellore, India.

One day Mahatma Gandhi visited the college/hospital. She never got married because in the old Indian times old men marry young women and the old men die soon. When the men die they burn him but they don’t just burn him they burn the young wives too.

This is the true story of Ida Sophia Scudder. Even now many remember her and celebrate her death day since she helped many. Some nowadays call her an Angel Of Mercy.

Akecheeana is a rare specie found in hidden parts of the African savanna. It has the body and legs of a cheetah to help it run fast and catch prey such as wildebeest, impalas, meerkats, wild dogs and if they’re lucky they could even catch elephants. It has the head of the green snake but is gentle. It has the tail of a iguana to slash out enemies such as lions and more. It is also good friends with the Cheatog.

Black Beauty Book Trailer - Planning out

Orientation : The author of this book is Anna Sewell. She wrote the life of her horse which is also known as Black Beauty. Black Beauty was fully black and had a white diamond on his forehead and that’s how he got his name.

There are other characters which are all horses and here are some names : Duchess ( Black Beauty’s mother ), Ginger ( Black Beauty’s best friend ) and Sir Oliver ( an old friend of Black Beauty ).

Setting / Background : The background is mostly grassy fields or farms or barns.

Problem : The problem is that wherever he goes his owner always sells him again and again until 2 ladies brought him and never sold him again.

Recommendation : I recommend this book to people who have a hard time in life but, always do their best, and for people who like reading books about horses, autobiographies and happy endings.

A visit to Tapu Te Ranga Marae

A girl named Anna learnt a Karanga - A Karanga is a greeting to sing as we walk in the Marae.  A boy named Terry who was from the tangata whenua stood up and talked in Maori. But, no one understood, except the tangata whenua.( The Maori people )  They put money in for the koha ( the treasure ).The person who put it there had to practise walking backwards because it was rude to turn your back on the Maori people.A boy from their school did a speech in Maori and then translated in to English.

Sisters of Saint Joseph Recount

Wow ! Ooh ! What’s this ? Too many questions to ask. We ( The Ctk Community ) are at the sisters of saint Joseph centre. There are too many things to admire there.

My favourite part is when we got to see the library. There i saw THE BEST BOOKS  i could imagine. I felt like reading them all. But, we could only see and feel. It had a section for fiction and non - fiction books. Me and my friend : Ferah, found an old typewriter machine and we guessed if it might be the typewriter St Mary Mackillop used. Then attached to the library there was another room that had a beautiful window and from there I could see a statue of saint Joseph and the bay of Rangitoto. Then through the doorway I followed my friend, Ferah to the other part of the museum where the old artifacts were. We saw the chair where Mary Mackillop sat on. Then it was time that we went downstairs. Then it was time we ask questions to the sisters. We asked lots of questions and when the sisters answered we all went “ ooh “ or “ wow “. Then it was time for lunch time. After I ate my lunch there was a lolly scramble. I got 3 lollies but, I shared 1 with Tina. Then I viewed the bay of Rangitoto

Moment in time

“ Let’s sit down here “ said Ferah, my best friend.
We went and sat under the shadows of a big tree. I could see people handing out orange juice.

I started eating my lunch when I hear a person shout “ lolly scramble ! “. I run over to the crowd and managed to grab 3 lollies. I see the crowd not willing to depart from the sister. They were like airplanes who don’t know how to land. I run back to the place I was sitting and was about to eat one until my other friend, Tina comse. “ Hi “ she says. I give her one of my lollies because she had none. I  see the waves trying to catch one another. The sunlight hit the waves with such a reflection, it was like a mirror. I could hear the waves hitting the uncountable sand with a splash. I can see the statue of Saint Joseph and the paradise Island : Rangitoto. I feel that the power of St. Joseph is guarding the Island from erupting. I can see white things flying until, I notice they’re seagulls and albatrosses.  I finished eating and then run to the place where my friends are. Then in just a minute the teachers are rounding up their classes. I eat one of my lollies on the way and then I hopped on the bus and peeled the cover of my second lolly and popped it into my mouth. Mmmm, pineapple flavour, my favourite flavour. As the bus starts to move, the chapel and the centre becomes more little and little until it’s no more.

As the bus drives out of the place I feel the history of our little school and many more school’s history knowledge in my body.

My Game of Netball

1 netball            8 surprise
2 trees               9 rusty
3 ball                 10 old
4 skin
5 warm
6 coach
7 breath

“ Yay, we won “.   As I finish my game of netball. I sit down next to my coach and say, “ Netball is a fun game “.

I take a deep breath and let go. The wind makes my skin nice and warm. My coach smiles at me. He is real proud of me because I understand the concept of netball. I see the birds tweeting and hearing it is calming me down. I quickly understood their song. The trees gently wave to me as if they were saying “hi” . I could barely imagine I won. In a far of distance I saw my mum. She has a big smile on her face. Whenever she makes that smile I think there is a surprise. I wonder what it is.

I look at my coach and from underneath the chair he took a brand new netball ball and gives it to me. My rusty old one is always in my room as a sign of my netball game .

Ida: Boys Building Sandcastle - Writing Sample
Sandcastle Fun

“Crash” the waves hit the floor of sand.  As I am walking down the beach. I see 2 boys building a sandcastle. When they finish making the last wall of the sandcastle they hold up their bucket and spade.

The sand is running into my toes as I walk along. The salty breeze is flowing along, it is very gentle. The sun is shining very brightly over the thick white clouds. The clear blue sky is reflecting on the calm waves. The wind is hovering over the ocean. People are jumping in the water and playing with their family. I can see the boys having real fun with their sandcastle. The sand is so much like the stars in the sky. The sandcastle is big and mini size of a giants castle.

I think they will grow up to build real castles (  if its their dream ).

Ida : Writing Assessment - Boys Jumping Off

 Double Splash

“Splash” . The 2 boys who are sitting on the rough road  take a big dive.     “Ah” the salty breeze brushes along the busy bridge. The bright white clouds try to cover the light blue sky.  I can hear the cars zoom along as they leave a trail of polluted air. The heavy air carries the pollution to  a land beyond limits. It is a  high bridge. So I think the 2 excited boys must have been nervous to jump off a bridge like that. The wavy waves slowly hit the bridge like the air with a low breeze. The clouds make a great reflection in the water. It looks like a wallpaper of blue with highlights of white.

I think these 2 boys will become great divers one day or another.

“ Hi, uncle “. I say. My uncle is starting to read me a story of his lifetime and I am really enjoying it. We are in the lounge.

I could hear the wind rattling through the books. I could feel my left leg getting ticklish. He is now talking about the time he planted his first seed into soil. I am so surprised because his first seed is a sunflower seed. I thought he was lucky because I love sunflowers, but I never planted a sunflower seed. He ends his story with a smile.

I am very happy to hear his lifetime story until now. It is exciting, sad, and mad. Sometimes it was funny.

Writing Sample 5

The Big Splash
Splash!  As I am walking down the wharf I see a brave young girl taking the dive. I think she is very brave to do that. As she jumps in the water some tiny blue crystals of water leap onto me. It is a huge jump like throwing 50 bowling balls in the water at the same time.  I smell the salty water of the ocean and hear the cries of the hungry seagulls hoping to find something to eat. The brave youngster is wearing a safety  jacket so I think she will be safe. She swims up to the surface to get some oxygen and dives back in. I see nets have been thrown on the wharf for the next time fishermen catch fish. I see that the girl is having a good time under the water. The brisk air is heavy and is trying to carry you away.

This is her first time jumping into the water.  I think that her first jump was a brave jump because a youngster like that never has the mind to do scary things like dive in shallow water. Not even I have the mind to do that. So a “hooray” for today. She had a success in that jump for today.

Computers

Wow ! Computers aren’t they incredible ?. But computers can be risky to life in our planet Earth.

Good Things About Computers
The good thing is that they last long and we can do lots of things on it such as research, games, documents, presentations and even spreadsheets. You can count on computers to do many things. It is very easy to type. There is many social media you can choose from and you can communicate with people almost everywhere. There is no limit access to the internet and you get to do things creativity. You can set up your own wallpaper and your own google wallpaper. Computers can also come in handy when you forget the GPS at home since it has a map you could always use.

Bad Things About Computers
Even though there are good stuff about computers there are some negative stuff too. Some are that if you accidently click on ads you can go to bad websites that lead you to paying money. If kids are playing on an electronic device and there is no parental guidance it might just lead the kids to putting their personal info and sometimes their personal info shows on the game or website their playing on. The person looking at their info might want money from them and pretend to be good. Or in other ways the person looking at the information might cyber bully.

Saint Francis Of Assisi

St. Francis Feast Day: October 4

Francis’ mother wanted to be like Mary mother of Christ so she left her wealthy home and went to a stable and that’s where Francis was born. St. Francis wanted to be a knight but, one day he became ill and on his bed God talked to him. God said “ Francis, who can help you : the Lord or the servant ? “. Then Francis said “ Lord, what do I have to do “ The Lord said find out tomorrow. Then Francis gave up his life to follow Christ. God also gave him the powers of talking to animals. He made canticles of many things God created. He was a great man that praised God’s lovely creation through his entire life.

Magnetics

MAGNETICS
Girl: Hey, Mom guess what I learned.

Mum: What did you learn?

Girl: I learned that magnets can attach to other magnets like: Metal and all.

Mum:Wow that’s cool

Girl: I also learned that magnets are a type of iron.

Mum: So can we using it as a ironing box?

Girl: Oh no, mum that is crazy. Ha ha ha.

Girl: And I learned these facts too.
A magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible for the most notable property of a magnet: a force that pulls on other ferromagnetic materials, such as iron, and attracts or repels other magnets.

Mum: Wow that is a million facts about magnets. Now Let’s have some tea.
