A visit to Tapu Te Ranga Marae
A girl named Anna learnt a Karanga - A Karanga is a greeting to sing as we walk in the Marae. A boy named Terry who was from the tangata whenua stood up and talked in Maori. But, no one understood, except the tangata whenua.( The Maori people ) They put money in for the koha ( the treasure ).The person who put it there had to practise walking backwards because it was rude to turn your back on the Maori people.A boy from their school did a speech in Maori and then translated in to English.
